Sammlerstück, einzigartiger Zustand, eines sehr seltenen 18 Fuß Silver Streak Clipper, vintage trailer. Nur eine handvoll wurde vom Airstream Gründer kreiert und nur produziert.

Originalzustand, seltener und für seine 65 Jahre sehr gut erhaltener Vintage Trailer der Marke Silver Streak, Typ Clipper, Baujahr 1950. Antiquität in Museumsqualität. Der Gründer von Airstream Inc. Wally Byam hat dieses besonders markante Model nach dem 2. Weltkrieg entworfen und nur kurze Zeit im Konkurenzunternehmen ″Curtis Wright Aircraft inc.″ fertigen lassen, bevor er mit Airstream Inc. seine Produktion fortsetzte. Zeitloses, sehr wertbeständiges Fahrzeug aus 99,7% haltigem Aluminium. An Heck und Bug die ″Alien Augen Optik″ und die vielen stromlinenförmigen Aluminiumrundungen, Innenverkleidung und Möbel wurden ebenso aus Aluminium gefertigt. Very unique vintage trailer, original interior, unbeliveable shape of the interior and exterior, ultra-rare.

Description by the pre-owner :
This is a one-of-a-kind fully restored Silver Streak camper trailer (yes, it looks just like the vintage Airstream, but it was manufactured by their competitor at the time, Silver Streak). The previous owner did a ground-up restoration with a ″fly fishing cabin″ theme for his grandsons. The condition inside and out is outstanding. The model is The Clipper and the serial number is 2010. They obviously didn′t make very many of these.

The trailer sits on a single axle and weighs approximately 2200-lbs / 990 kgs. The only modification made to the original design is a 12″ tongue extension that the previous owner added to minimize swaying. It now tows at 75mph perfectly.

The interior has been completely repainted with the light green paint used on the inside of military submarines. The wood floor is original, as is the pink Formica laminate table, sink, icebox and gas cooktop. There are three overhead cabinets and another storage cabinet under the sink. The camper can plug into a 110v power source with two separately controlled interior lights. There are two closets over the wheel wells and ample storage under the bed in the rear of the unit that comfortably sleeps two adults (even comfortable for someone who is 6′2″.)

Also original is a screen door and exterior track to hold a fabric awning (which is included, and is rather new). There is propane tank to power the original heater (although we′ve never used it), an 11-gallon on-board water storage tank. The sink and ice box are daylight drained.  The exterior skin has been hand buffed to the original new luster. Looking at it in person, you′ll have a hard time believing that this trailer is 65 years old.


Manufacturer Information

Curtis Wright, who moved to LA from Michigan before the war to start a manufacturing plant, hired Wally Byam. After the war in 1946, they started production of a new post-war travel trailer based on Wally′s pre-war Airstream Clipper & Silver Cloud models at the LA Metropolitan Airport. After some months they went their separate ways, forming the Airstream Co. and Curtis Wright Travel Trailers. This appears to be why late 30s Airstreams and 1940s Curtis Wright′s look very similar. In June 1949, three individuals, Kenny Neptune, Frank Pollito and Pat Patterson, who had met each other while working for Douglas Aircraft, acquired the trailer business from Mr. Wright and began producing trailers under the Silver Streak name in south El Monte California -which it continued into the 1970s as a separate company.

Curtiss-Wright manufactured airplanes during the 1940s, 1950s. The trailers were made at the Curtis-Wright facilities, but a man bearing the name of Curtis Wright (without the extra ′s′) took advantage of his name to build trailers, and hired Wally Byam founder of Airstream to continue the Clipper designs.
